Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 91 runs in match 55 of IPL 2022, but that is unlikely to help them get back to the race to the playoffs. But for Delhi, a loss as huge as this has made their chances of qualifying difficult and they now have to win all their remaining league games in order to be able to qualify.
Batting first, CSK posted a total of 208 runs on the board. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 41 off 33 while his opening partner Devon Conway hit a knock of 87 off 49. Conway’s form in the recent few games has had a big positive impact on CSK.
Shivam Dube scored 32 off 19 while MS Dhoni remained unbeaten on 21 off 8. Dhoni’s knock came at a strike rate of more than 260.
Kuldeep Yadav was the most expensive bowler for Delhi Capitals. He conceded 43 runs in three overs without taking a wicket. Anrich Nortje bowled at an economy of more than 10 runs per over but picked up three wickets.
Chasing 209 runs to win, the Delhi batting line-up fell like a pack of cards. David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant got starts but were not able to convert it into match-saving knocks. Eventually, the Capitals lost all their wickets for 117 runs in 17.4 overs.
“As Delhi Capitals we have played a lot of close games, there had to be a game where there is a massive difference between the two sides and unfortunately we are on the receiving end. I thought we were getting better but that is not the case. The only thing we can look forward to is the next three matches, if we win them then we will qualify,” Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant said after the game.
