Delhi Capitals have kept themselves afloat in the race to the playoffs after beating Rajasthan Royals by 8 wickets in match 58 of IPL 2022.
Batting first, the Royals put up 160 runs on the board. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler were not able to get going as they perished for 19 and seven runs, respectively.
But Ravichandran Ashwin and Devdutt Padikkal steadied the ship for the Royals. Ashwin, batting one down, scored 50 off 38 while Padikkal hit 48 off 30. Eventually Rajasthan managed 160 in their 20 overs which was chased down by the Capitals without much trouble.
David Warner remained unbeaten on 52 off 41 while Mitchell Marsh scored 89 off 62. Later, a Rishabh Pant cameo - 13 runs off just four balls - took the Capitals over the line in 18.2 overs.
For Rajasthan, Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up a wicket each while for the Capitals, Chetan Sakariya, Anrich Nortje and Mitchell picked up two wickets each.
After this win, Delhi are still fifth in the points table and need to win their next two games as well to qualify for the playoffs. Rajasthan, on the other hand, moved down to the sixth spot and their chances of making the playoffs have further reduced.
“Very disappointing night. We were a few runs short, and a few wickets short in the middle. While we were batting the wicket was two-paced. We were 15-20 runs short. While bowling second we dropped a few catches. Really disappointed, but we would like to come back in the next game,” RR captain Sanju Samson told Star Sports after the game.
