Mumbai Indians knocked out Delhi Capitals from the IPL 2022 playoffs by defeating them by five wickets. Delhi, for whom this game was a must win to qualify for the playoffs, will now have to return home. Delhi's loss means Royal Challengers Bangalore have grabbed the fourth spot in the table. We now have all the four teams for the playoffs - Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals will play the qualifier 1 while Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants will play the eliminator 1. The loser of qualifier 1 will then play the winner of the eliminator 1 in the qualifier 2. The final will be contested between the winner of qualifier 1 and the winner of qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad.
Talking about the game between Delhi and Mumbai, the former posted 159 runs on the board in their 20 overs. Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell were the top scorers for them. Chasing 160 to win, Mumbai were helped by the likes of Ishan Kishan and Tim David to get over the line. Kishan scored 48 while David was outstanding with an 11-ball 34.
Delhi have finished their IPL 2022 campaign as the fifth ranked team in the points table while Mumbai have finished as the wooden spooners.
