Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by 23 runs in the ninth match of IPL 2022. With two wins in two games, the Royals are now right at the top of the points table.
Batting first, the Sanju Samson-led side posted 193 runs on the board. However, their innings was mostly a one-man show. Opener Jos Buttler scored a fantastic century off just 68 balls. The England international hit 11 boundaries and five maximums during his stay on the crease. Buttler had all kinds of shots under his belt which helped him bring up his second IPL hundred and first of the current edition. The second-best performance came from Shimron Hetmyer, who scored 35 off 14 at a strike rate of 250. Captain Sanju Samson too contributed with a 21-ball 30. But apart from these three, no other batsmen could get going.
Chasing 194, Mumbai opener Ishan Kishan scored a 43-ball 53 while Tilak Verma chipped in with a 33-ball 61. But without contribution from any other batsman, the five-time champions fell short of the target by 23 runs.
Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills picked up three wickets for Mumbai. Bumrah was particularly impressive with an economy of 4.25 runs per over. For the Royals, Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets each, while Trent Boult, Ravichandran Ashwin and Prasidh Krishna picked up one wicket each.
