Ishant Sharma Suffers Ankle Injury Before New Zealand Tour

The Indian cricketer injures his ankle during the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Vidarbha.

Ishant Sharma joins the list of injured players of the India cricket team. Unfortunately, the experienced pacer twisted his ankle during an lbw appeal against Vidarbha’s captain, Faiz Fazal.

Delhi was pressured after conceding a 16-run lead while pursuing the opponent’s total of 179. The medium-pacer, Akshay Thakare took 7/55.

National selector, Devang Gandhi’s concerned face was seen by everyone in the match as Sharma left the field with a support staff.

The selectors are set to pick the squad for the upcoming two-Test series of India in New Zealand. Supposedly, Sharma was scheduled to fly out to New Zealand on February 6 to join the rest of the India cricket team.

A source from the Delhi camp said, ‘The injury looks really bad. His ankle is swollen. Hope it's not a fracture. He has been taken for an MRI. Most probably, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will take over his recovery and rehab from here’.

The source is hinting that Sharma won’t be able to bowl in the current match. However, the team management of India will remain hopeful that the MRI won’t reveal any tear or fracture in his ankle.

India is set to tour New Zealand this Friday, January 24. The odds for the upcoming series predict that India (-185.19) has chances to win over New Zealand (+154).
