After quite a few delays, Shahid Kapoors new film Jersey has finally arrived, Jersey is a Hindi sports drama and a remake of the Telugu movie of the same name. The movie tells the story of a failed cricketer who retires from sports after repeated failures but makes a comeback in his 30’s to fulfil his son’s wish of getting an Indian cricket team jersey.
Shahid plays the role of the failed cricketer, who is named Arjun Talwar. Arjun remains out of touch with cricket for nearly a decade before deciding to make a comeback to fulfil his son Karan Talwar’s dream. While some claimed that the film is based on the life of cricketer Raman Lamba, the makers of the movie claimed that it is a fictional story.
The original Telugu movie Jersey was released worldwide on 19 April 2019. It received universal acclaim and was listed by several as one of the best Telugu films of 2019. The film was also screened at the International Indian Toronto Film Festival in August 2020.
