Richardson is confirmed to join the ODI squad after recovering from a serious injury.
Trevor Hohns, the Chairman of Selectors confirmed that Jhye Richardson will stay in South Africa for the upcoming three-match ODI series of the Aussies.
Richardson is originally named only in the T20I squad but was not able to play international cricket for almost a year due to a serious shoulder injury. The injury was sustained during the series against Pakistan last March held in the United Arab Emirates.
He is a right-arm fast bowler who was able to take a total of 15 wickets out of 14 games for the Perth Scorchers at the Big Bash League (BBL). ‘Jhye is performing exceptionally well, as we saw throughout the Big Bash. He has slotted back into the T20 squad in South Africa and is pushing for a place in that side’, Hohns said.
‘We are very fortunate to have such a deep pool of fast bowlers. Jhye has earnt his place after the hard work he has done to get back into his best form after a serious injury. Keeping him in South Africa with the one-day squad gives us another exceptional fast bowler who is ready to go’, he added.
Australia’s ODI Squad: Aaron Finch (c), Ashton Agar, Alex Carey (vc), Pat Cummins (vc), Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne, Jhye Richardson (SA series only), Mitchell Marsh, Kane Richardson, Steven Smith, D'Arcy Short, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa
