Jonty Rhodes Says Why He Prefers Kohli Over Smith

Rhodes chose the current best batsman and best fielder

The debate about the best player in cricket started when Steve Smith overtook Virat Kohli’s spot in the ICC Test Rankings for Batsmen. They have been compared by a lot of critics and fans. Both players made impressive records in the recent tournaments they participated in.

Kohli is still fresh from the recently concluded West Indies tour and serving as the captain of the team against South Africa. Smith was adjudged as Player of the Series in the Ashes 2019. He scored a massive 774 runs in the series, surpassing his own record in the previous edition.

Fielding coach Jonty Rhodes gave his opinion on who is the current best batsman between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith. He said that he prefers the Indian skipper over Smith.

‘I enjoy watching Virat Kohli. His shots amaze me, and sometimes it looks like that how on earth can he hit like that. Steve Smith, with that action and technique, makes the ugliest hundreds I have ever seen but the man just keeps scoring runs’, Rhodes said.

Rhodes was also asked on who’s the best fielder for him. He chose New Zealand’s Martin Guptill over India’s Ravindra Jadeja. ‘Jadeja doesn’t get enough cricket time. Guptill is playing every game. Guptill is great in the slips, great in the covers, great in the boundaries. He is a great all-round fielder, Jadeja has got the X factor. There are really good fielders out there but Guptill for me stands out’, he said.

Virat Kohli and his side are set to compete against South Africa today in Mohali. India (-232) has the favourable odds over South Africa (+196) for this match. Check out the latest cricket odds at Betwala.
