Kagiso Rabada Believes in Team’s Chances in World Cup

Rabada believes South Africa has a chance of winning the tournament

South African bowler Kagiso Rabada says that their team has every chance to win the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

“You can’t be anything but positive going into the World Cup. We believe we have every chance to win the World Cup. What has happened in the past, you got to let go of that,” said Rabada before continuing that their chances of winning is due to their young mix of players.

“We have a young team that has shown potential. And I feel it’s a blessing that not many of them have been to the World Cup. It’s young and it’s fresh.”

This comes after the Proteas lost two of their World Cup matches against England and Bangladesh which gives credence to the team’s eternal chokers nickname.

“It’s something that has been haunting us for years. It’s (almost) like a Shakespearean tragedy. Hopefully, we can change that,” Rabada continued.

Rabada has an ODI economy rate of 5.01 and has developed to be a death over specialist over the years. When he was asked about his perfect executions in a death over, Rabada said it’s not about the homework before the match but focusing on what works in the game itself.

“These days, players do a lot of analysis. So, the batters and bowlers are looking up batting and bowling histories. You can prepare (on) what could be coming your way. But it’s more about what works for you on the day of the match rather than all the planning you made.”

The right arm fast bowler is also a contender for the South African captaincy if current captain Faf du Plessis resigns after his last 50 over World Cup. He believes if he was given the responsibility that he will rise to the challenge because there is a lot to learn.

“The more people keep mentioning it, the more I try and put myself in the captain’s shoes on the field and sort of assess match situations. So, if the opportunity does come up to me, I would take it up as a challenge and give my absolute best,” continued Rabada.

South Africa will be playing against India tomorrow at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground. India is favoured to win tomorrow’s match with odds of -196 against South Africa’s odds of +166.
