Pakistan player Kashif Bhatti was permitted to be a part of their squad despite a COVID-19 scare.
Kashif Bhatti was among the third batch of Pakistan players who flew to England after returning two negative COVID-19 test results. However, he has been placed under another process of self-isolation as he also tested positive upon arriving in England. To date, he was already allowed to come back to the Pakistan squad.
At some point, there had been some confusions as to why Bhatti tested positive despite turning over two consecutive negative results in Pakistan. As an ECB spokesperson explained, the cause for the positive result may have been due to the remnants of the COVID-19 virus.
On his explanation, he said, ‘The player had returned a positive test result for the remnants of a previous COVID-19 infection and in consultation with Public Health England and a virologist, a safety-first approach was taken to isolate the player. The player has now returned a second negative test with no risk of infection to other players and staff’.
Bhatti flew to England with Haider Ali, Imran Khan, and their team masseur Malang Ali and have arrived on July 8. Though he had stayed in the team hotel, it was only now that he will be allowed to work with his teammates after the additional self-isolation which had been required for him.
To date, Pakistan is getting ready to face off with England in a series comprised of three Test matches and three T20Is. These matches will take place from August to September.
