Due to the recent injury of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul was named the stand-in captain for T20I series against New Zealand.
Yesterday, the T20I series between India and New Zealand wrapped up as the visiting team whitewashed the hosts with an overall score of 5-0.
KL Rahul was recognised as the player of the series for his outstanding performance as a batsman for the India cricket team.
When interviewed, Rahul said, ‘I haven't really thought about it (batting in the middle-order in the ODIs) yet. Travelling and winning a series 5-0 doesn't happen often, so we're just going to enjoy that for the next couple of days; put our feet up and relax for a little while’.
According to Rahul, each player of the team performed their role really well and the teamwork between the Men in Blue was the main reason as to how they achieved this feat.
Rahul was named the stand-in captain for the match against New Zealand as Rohit Sharma who was the previous stand-in for Virat Kohli, took a rest after suffering a calf injury.
Rahul admitted that he learned a lot from observing Kane Williamson bat during the Indian Premier League when they played for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Williamson is set to lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming 2020 Indian Premier League while Rahul is the new captain for the Kings XI Punjab.
