KL Rahul became the fastest Indian to score 5,000 T20 runs, beating the record set by Virat Kohli.
In the recent Indian Premier League match between the Punjab Kings and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Indian player KL Rahul only managed to score four runs. However, this had been enough as he only needed one run to beat Virat Kohli’s record of being the fastest batsman to score 5,000 T20 runs.
Rahul only took 143 innings to reach the milestone, thus beating Kohli who achieved it in 167 innings. Despite having beaten the past record set by Kohli, Rahul is yet to surpass Kohli who has now become the first batsman to complete 6,000 runs in the IPL. Kohli now has 6,021 T20 runs to his name.
Before the match, Rahul just needed one more run in order to reach the said milestone in his career. With that, he easily finished his 5000th run as he mustered only four off six deliveries before losing the wicket to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Despite having finally achieved it, his performance had not been enough to lead the team to victory.
After the match, Rahul said, ‘We knew what to expect here. Tried to get used to the conditions as quickly as we can. We were 10-15 short on this pitch. Bowlers tried very hard, but it’s very hard coming into these conditions and adapting quickly. Hindsight is a beautiful thing. We knew they were going to come hard. It’s tricky to have attacking fields’.
‘Was waiting for one of them to get out and then put pressure. Wanted to take the game as deep as possible. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get wickets in the middle and that cost us. Every game is important for us and we’ve been in that position. It’s not a bad position to be in. Hopefully, learn from our mistakes and keep getting better’, he added.
The next match of the Punjab Kings will be played against Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. So far, the odds for the next match is +131 for Punjab Kings and -178.57 for the defending champions. To know the odds for other upcoming matches, head over to Betwala.
