Indian player KL Rahul has been ruled out of the last two Tests against Australia after sustaining a wrist injury.
It was during a practice session of the Indian team at the Melbourne Cricket Ground that Indian batsman KL Rahul hurt his wrist while batting on the nets last Saturday. As his left wrist remains to be sprained, he has officially been ruled out of the two remaining Test matches that are to be played against Australia.
Rahul has not played in the first two Tests. However, it was expected that he will be recalled for the third Test match as he has already flown to Sydney. Due to the injury, he will instead be heading back home to undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Talking about the player’s condition, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said, ‘He will need about three weeks time to recover completely and regain full strength. He will now return to India and head to the national cricket academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation’.
As the 28-year-old player had been sidelined for the remainder of the series, his participation for the upcoming four-Test home series against England also remains to be questionable. This is because the said series is scheduled to begin on February 5 at Chennai.
Rahul’s injury made him included on the long list of players who were unavailable for India. Some of the other players who missed out parts of the ongoing series are Virat Kohli who is on paternity leave, Ishant Sharma who has an abdominal muscle injury, as well as Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav who had both sustained injuries in the first and second Tests respectively.
So far, no replacement has been named for Rahul for the upcoming Test matches which are scheduled on January 17 and January 15. The current standing in the series is 1-1 after Australia won the first and India won the second. So far, the odds for the upcoming Test is -285.71 for Australia and +204 for India.
