Knight said they will treat T20I games as separate from Ashes series
England women’s cricket team captain Heather Knight said the team will perform better in their T20I games of the 2019 Ashes series. This comes after Australia won three one-day international (ODI) matches in the tournament and the Test match ended in a draw.
“I think they’ve outplayed us, so congratulations to them,” said Knight in an interview with Sky Sports. “We’re disappointed losing the Ashes but now we’ve got to treat this T20 series as a separate series. It’s three games to show what we can do.”
Meanwhile, bowler Mady Villiers is picked for the T20I matches after she scored an impressive half-century for England’s Academy tour game against Australia. Currently, Villiers is the only new face the squad.
Here is the current squad for the England women’s cricket team:
- Heather Knight (Captain)
- Tammy Beaumont
- Katherine Brunt
- Kate Cross
- Sophie Ecclestone
- Georgia Elwiss
- Jenny Gunn
- Amy Jones
- Laura Marsh
- Nat Sciver
- Anya Shrubsole
- Sarah Taylor
- Mady Villiers
- Lauren Winfield
- Danni Wyatt
The women’s T20I matches for the Ashes series will begin on July 27 at Essex County Cricket Club. The women's Ashes series began after the Men’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
