The batsman recently became the most successful Indian Test captain
Virat Kohli is India’s team captain for their West Indies tour in all cricket formats. The team dominated the T20I and ODI series of the tour that took place in August. They then proceeded to win all the matches of the tour’s Test series against West Indies. Virat Kohli surpassed MS Dhoni as India’s most successful Test captain. Team India won 27 Tests out of 60 matches when Dhoni was captain. Kohli led the team to 28 Test wins in 48 matches. He credits the team’s collective effort during the Test series.
‘Captaincy is just a “C” in front of your name honestly. It’s the collective effort that matters. It’s a by-product of this quality team that we have here, to be honest’, Kohli said after the recent Jamaica Test. ‘If we didn’t have the bowlers we have, I don’t think the results would have been possible’.
The Indian batsman also praised Jasprit Bumrah’s amazing play during the Tests against West Indies. ‘When he (Bumrah) gets some kind of momentum, you can see what he can do in five-six overs with the new ball, which you saw in the first innings. I haven't seen many more lethal spells than that two spells in the last couple of Tests’, said Kohli. ‘I think he’s the most complete bowler in world cricket now’.
Aside from Bumrah, Kohli compliments Hanuma Vihari as well. Vihari scored his first Test century in the Jamaica Test, finishing the match with a total of 289 runs. India won the two matches of their tour’s Test series against West Indies. The Test series is part of the new ICC World Test Championship 2019-21.
