Rishabh Pant should rise to the occasion and take over the role of Dhoni.
MS Dhoni is taking a two-month break from cricket as he serves in the Indian Army in Kashmir. Hence, he wasn’t considered for the West Indies tour. The India tour of West Indies will have three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Test matches. The first T20Is will be held in Florida, USA, while the remaining T20I and other games will be played in the Caribbean.
His absence has given Rishabh Pant a chance to shine especially since he has been chosen as the first-choice wicketkeeper in all three formats of the game. Virat Kohli also believes that the time is ripe for Pant to step-up to the challenge.
“It’s a great opportunity for someone like Rishabh Pant to really play a lot of international cricket, show his credentials, really unleash his potential at this stage. We know how much ability he has and we all want him to become a consistent performer for the Indian cricket team. MS Dhoni’s experience is always going to be a very crucial factor but having said that some of these younger guys have a great opportunity ahead of them and they should just look forward to it.”
