The Indian batsman led the team to many wins since he became captain
Virat Kohli took over as Test captain in 2014. He became captain after MS Dhoni stepped down in 2014. Dhoni last led the team in the Melbourne Test series. He retired from Test cricket after that, becoming one of India’s best captains in history. India won 27 of 60 Tests under Dhoni.
India is currently on the last leg of their West Indies Tour. The teams are set to play the last Test match of the tour. India dominated the T20I and ODI series of the tour that took place before the Test matches. Virat Kohli led the team in all cricket formats during the tour.
The upcoming match is the second Test of the series. India won the first Test match against West Indies by 318 runs. Kohli already passed Sourav Ganguly’s away wins in Test cricket. Ganguly follows Dhoni’s records of Test wins as India captain. This means that Kohli is already in second place before the second Test even started. Kohli has 12 wins while Ganguly has 11.
The second Test match of India starts on August 30 and will continue until September 3. After the tour, India will play against South Africa as home team in the latter part of September. India and South Africa will also play Test cricket in the upcoming event. The odds are for India (-625) to win the second Test match against West Indies (+470).
