Rnners up of the previous IPL edition, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) unveiled their new jersey for IPL 2022 on Holi. The two-time IPL champions released the jersey on Friday with a video containing a voice over from newly appointed captain, Shreyas Iyer. CEO Venky Mysore was also present at the launch of KKR’s new jersey that retained their traditional colours, albeit a dash of dazzling golden hue added to the palette. The kit also displayed a brand new main sponsor, which makes it the franchise's fourth overall since the start of the championship. Iyer, former Delhi Capitals skipper had put on the purple and gold threads and was quoted as saying “I love the gold in the logo. It simply stands out.”
The kits of most franchises like Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants have a shade of blue as the primary colour while Rajasthan embrace blue as a secondary shade in their clothing.
With Shreyas, 26, in charge of the captaincy, KKR will be looking for better opportunities and will mark the herald of a new era. The franchise dropped Eoin Morgan and brought Iyer, for a staggering Rs 12.25 crore during last month’s mega auction. They were also able to retain some of their former players like Pat Cummins, Nitish Rana, Shivam Mavi and Rinku Singh. Alex Hales, who backed out from the tournament citing bubble fatigue as the reason got replaced by Australian captain Aaron Finch.
Kolkata Knight Riders will start their IPL 2022 contest with a battle against defending champions Chennai Super Kings on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. KKR under Iyer will hope to win their third IPL title with some outstanding players in their squad.
