Kugandrie Govender becomes the first woman to lead CSA as she gets named as the acting CEO of the board.
Just recently, it may be recalled that Cricket South Africa’s CEO stepped down from his role shortly after the resignation of Chris Nenzani. Now, CSA has chosen to appoint COO Kugandrie Govender to be the acting CEO of the board, making her the first woman to take over the said role.
Govender has been in position since May 2019. With her marketing degree and her 23 years experience with high profile companies, she has been an asset to the CSA during her tenure as COO.
With regards to Govender’s appointment, CSA acting president Beresford Williams says, ‘We believe that Kugandrie is the right person to drive the organisation forward during this period. Her experience has more than prepared her to fulfill this role with excellence. We are confident that she will propel the many strategic initiatives that CSA undertakes to inspire and unify our stakeholders, partners, and employees, to continue the work of building the reputation of cricket and more importantly CSA, so as to contribute to its sporting competitiveness’.
‘CSA's mandate is to ensure that cricket is an inclusive sporting code for all South Africans. It is important to improve our reputation both locally and internationally. This is a critical time for our organisation and (it is) crucial for key stakeholders to work together to improve the rating of cricket among those who love, support, and follow the sport, and those who have trust in the sport's ability to unify all South Africans’, he added.
