Former India coach Anil Kumble backs R. Ashwin.
R. Ashwin was overlooked in the starting XI for Test matches of the West Indies tour. He hasn’t played any Test match for India since the side’s tour of Australia in 2018. Ravindra Jadeja played as the lone spinner in both Tests of the West Indies tour. Head coach Ravi Shastri said that they preferred Jadeja because of his impressive batting and fielding performance.
Former India captain and coach Anil Kumble defended the all-rounder. He said that Ashwin is the no.1 spinner of the team. Kumble also mentioned Ashwin’s achievements, insisting that the team can accommodate Ashwin and Jadeja.
‘He is still the best spinner that you have’, Kumble said in an interview. ‘Yes, there have been a few incidents where he has had injuries and not performed to his potential, but Ashwin is your No. 1 spinner in the team. He should be a part of the squad, he should be in the playing XI, you have to make a way of getting him in’.
The Indian Cricket Team is scheduled to play a home Test series against South Africa from October 2 to 26, 2019. Ahead of the Test matches, the two teams will play three T20Is. South Africa will return to India on March 2020 to play for the ODI series. Find out more about cricket forms at Betwala.
