The Australian coach is definitely pleased with his bowler’s red-ball development and is confident in the player’s abilities.
Australian coach Justin Langer is happy with Mitchell Starc’s enhanced play on the red-ball cricket in the previous months. The bowler has been better in hitting back-of-length deliveries and will be a tough challenge for any foe.
‘What I'm most impressed with Mitchell Starc is that we talked to him, and I still remember one of the conversations at Hampshire with the white ball, I think Punter was there and I was there', Langer recalled. ‘And we said, 'Mitch, if you hit that length more often, you're actually a scary commodity because you come from so high, you're so fast’.
Starc may be the team’s premier bowler in limited-overs cricket, but he was not in the team sheet in the Test format as seen recently in the Ashes earlier this year. The coach has worked with Starc in honing his skills, especially on the lengths that the seamer bowls in Test cricket.
‘If you bowl a bit full, a bit short, for really good players you let us off the hook. But if you keep hitting that length more regularly you are a nightmare. His white-ball cricket has always been world-class’.
Langer is confident enough with Starc, and says that the bowler would be a nightmare to face in their matches. To know more about bowling, check out Betwala’s guide in playing cricket.
