The captain of the Kiwi team, Kane Williamson was ruled out for the upcoming ODI series against India due to a shoulder injury.
The wicketkeeper-batsman, Tom Latham is set to lead the New Zealand cricket team in the absence of Kane Williamson. Mark Chapman was also recalled to complete the squad.
The first time Williamson injured his shoulder was during the third T20I against India and wasn’t able to be part of the final two matches.
After an x-ray scan, it has revealed nothing serious, so the team management chose to take a risk on the following Test series. New Zealand is hoping that the skipper will be able to return and lead the team for the final ODI match on February 11 at Mount Maunganui.
Williamson’s injury gave Chapman a chance to return to the national team since he played his last ODI two years ago.
Chapman has been showing his impressive performance after scoring centuries against India A in the third unofficial ODI and during the first four-day match.
Selector, Gavin Larsen praised Chapman and said that he is a versatile player who is capable to cover multiple batting positions. On top of that, his fielding is a real upshot to be included in the squad.
The ODI series between India and New Zealand will start today at Hamilton, while the Test series will begin on February 21.
