The head coach of Mumbai Indias has won three titles so far.
India’s coaching staff’s tenure, led by head coach Ravi Shastri, has been extended in preparation for the upcoming India tour of West Indies. Despite this, the BCCI has made public invitations for all of the coaching positions. The current staff will also have to undergo the selection process. The Cricket Advisory Committee led by Kapil Dev will have the final say on the matter.
Several former cricketers have taken notice, one of them being Mahela Jayawardene. The former Sri Lankan player is highly praised for his coaching, and also has been England’s consultant coach for a brief period. It is also reported that he could likely be named Southern Brave’s head coach in preparation for The Hundred competition in England.
Reports say that he is highly interested in taking the role as Team India’s head coach. He has great coaching experience, having success with Mumbai Indians. The team has won twice in their three-time finals appearance since Jayawardene was named head coach.
If he is picked as India’s head coach, his chemistry with vice-captain Rohit Sharma will be a great benefit to the team. With Virat Kohli as captain, a decent team can be put together to prepare for the next World Cup. Other candidates who may apply are Gary Kirsten and Tom Moody.
The India tour of West Indies is fast approaching, and the teams are getting ready to face-off against one another. Simultaneously, India is also looking for possible replacements for their coaching staff. One clear pick could be Mahela Jayawardene, a coach in the IPL.
