Bangladeshi player Mahmudullah tests positive for COVID-19 and will miss out on the matches of Pakistan Super League.
Bangladesh T20 captain Mahmudullah Riyad was supposed to fly to Pakistan on a Sunday night. Upon checking his medical tests, he was then instructed to undergo self-isolation as his COVID-19 test results turned out positive. With that, he will be missing out on the upcoming matches of the Pakistan Super League.
This has also been confirmed by a BCB official who said, ‘Mahmudullah was tested corona-positive and will not be able to take part in the upcoming PSL play-offs’.
The resumption of the PSL was supposed to go underway after it had been suspended several times due to the virus outbreak. As the league got rescheduled, Mahmudullah, along with Tamim Iqbal, have both been signed by PSL franchises as a replacement for their unavailable players. Whereas Iqbal had been roped in by the Lahore Qalandars as a replacement for Chris Lynn, Mahmudullah was signed by the Multan Sultans to replace Moeen Ali.
Talking about his situation, the 34-year-old player said, ‘I was surprised with a positive result from my COVID test, on November 6. I didn't have fever or any other symptoms other than a bit of cold. Nothing more than that. I got tested for a second time yesterday, and that also came out as positive. I am now taking rest in a separate room. I am a little worried about my wife and kids. I am seeking everyone's prayers for quick recovery and for my family's well-being’.
‘It is disappointing to miss the chance to play in the PSL. It is a competitive tournament. It was a good opportunity to play a couple of matches there. I am now looking forward to getting well soon and try to participate in our Bangabandhu T20 Cup’, he added.
Supposedly, Mahmudullah was already on his way to Pakistan from Dubai to prepare for the matches which were scheduled from November 14 to 17. As he will miss out on the play-offs, he may also be missing out on the first parts of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup which is scheduled on November 21 or 22.
Mahmudullah is yet to be replaced by his team who will play in the first round of the PSL playoffs on November 14. So far, the odds for the game are -117.65 for the Multan Sultans and -113.64 for the Karachi Kings. To know the odds of other upcoming matches, visit Betwala.
