Fast bowler Malinga to retire after first match against Bangladesh
Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunarafne said fast bowler Lasith Malinga will retire from one-day international (ODI) matches after their first ODI game against Bangladesh.
“He is going to play the first match. After that, he is retiring. That's what he said to me,” stated Karunaratne. “I don't know what he said to the selectors but to me, he said he is playing only one match.”
Sri Lanka will play three ODI matches against Bangladesh from July 26 to July 32. The first match will be held on R. Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka.
The ODI games come after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 ended. Both the Tigers and Lions were knocked out of the league stage matches when it wrapped up on July 6. Host nation England won the trophy for the first time when they beat New Zealand on July 14. If you want to how the World Cup works, check out Betwala’s article.
