Australian player Marcus Harris was named as a replacement for Will Pucovski in the upcoming Test match against India.
Will Pucovski will have to miss out on the fourth Test match of Australia against India due to the shoulder injury he had suffered on the last day of his debut game. He obtained the injury when he dived in the field on the fifth day of the third Test match at the Sydney Cricket Grounds (SCG). As he had been ruled out of the next game, Marcus Harris had already been named as his replacement.
Pucovski’s inability to play for the upcoming Test match came when he failed his fitness test in Brisbane. His test results showed that he had dislocated his shoulder on the said Test match. This came after he also underwent a scan for the concussion he obtained beforehand.
Confirming the 22-year-old’s unavailability, Australian skipper Tim Paine said, ‘Will Pucovski won't play tomorrow. He's tried to train this morning. Didn't quite come up. So he'll have a bit of work to do with our medicos to see where he goes from here but I think he'll obviously miss this Test match and Marcus Harris will come in for him’.
‘And I think there'll be some discussions around Will's recovery. What that looks like I'm not sure at the moment. As I said, he just had a fitness test then and he didn't get up. So they'll be talking about that now. Marcus Harris will come in and open the batting and we're looking forward to see what he can do’, Paine added.
Harris, Pucovski’s replacement, has not played Test cricket since the Ashes in 2019. Still, Paine also said that Harris has been doing really good in the Sheffield Shield and that he really deserves this opportunity. He also stated that the team is looking forward to playing with Harris as well.
Harris will work as the opening player of the team in partnership with David Warner. This will be the first time in the series where Australia will have two specialist openers on their lineup. The last Test match will be played from January 15 to 19 at The Gabba. So far, the odds of the game are -2000 for Australia and +762 for India.
