Kevin Pietersen said he would be a great option for South Africa.
South Africa is going through some tough times shown in their performance at the ICC Cricket World Cup. They were only able to manage three wins throughout the tournament while also losing their first three games which seemed to have affected their morale.
Their performance prompted a review from Cricket South Africa. They decided to get rid of the entire coaching staff, including head coach Ottis Gibson. His contract as head coach was not renewed after the team’s horrible performance.
Following this, former England captain Kevin Pietersen suggested that Mark Boucher be named as South Africa’s next head coach. He tweeted, “Cricket South Africa sack Otis Gibson & his whole backroom staff. There is only ONE man who can turn their cricket around – @markb46! He has trophies, he’s respected around the world & he’s an absolute beaut of a human! Do the right thing, Corrie Van Zyl!”
As far as stats go, Mark Boucher is one of the most successful wicket-keepers in history with 555 dismissals in Test cricket and 999 in ODIs and T20Is combined. His career ended when he suffered an eye injury and has since been taking coaching roles.
South Africa, just like other cricket teams, are undergoing a ‘rebuilding’ period. They are hungry for wins and will do anything they deem necessary to win. To find out more about the South Africa Cricket team and other cricket teams, visit Betwala’s page.
