Former international player Martin Snedden will replace Greg Barclay as the new chairman of New Zealand Cricket.
Former New Zealand Cricket chairman Greg Barclay is the newly-elected chairman of the International Cricket Council. He was asked to step down from his current role before he takes on his new one. As his role in the NZC will be vacated, former international player Martin Snedden has been elected as the new chairman of the country’s cricket board.
Snedden also shares an experience with NZC as he previously worked as the board’s former CEO. Aside from that, he also served as a board member of the organization from 1990 to 1992, 1999 to 2001, and 2013 to present.
Aside from that, he also has experiences with other sports-related businesses as he worked as the former CEO of Rugby World Cup 2011, Duco Promotions, and Tourism Association NZ. He also worked as the director of World Masters Games 2017.
Upon taking his new role, Snedden says, ‘I'd like to thank Greg for the outstanding direction and guidance he's given the board since being elected as chair in 2016. It is a measure of the success he has overseen in this role that he has now been elected the ICC chair’.
‘Equally, I'd like to thank my fellow NZC directors for their support. I know that, together with chief executive David White and his excellent management team, we'll help lead the sport out of this global pandemic and embrace a strong sustainable future’, he added.
Before he takes on his new role, Snedden would first have to stand down from his current role of being the consultant lead of One Cricket project. Once he becomes the new NZC chairman, he will also be the representative on the ICC board. Still, this will not be a new thing for him as he had already seconded to the role during Stuart Heal’s tenure in 2013 and 2014.
Aside from his professional experiences with sports organizations, Snedden also has a history of playing 25 Tests and 93 ODIs. To further understand cricket and its formats, check out Betwala.
