He was let go after the team failed to make the playoffs in the recent IPL season.
Though the next season of the Indian Premier League is still months away, teams are already preparing, trading away players and making changes to their coaching staff as well as their management. One of these changes includes the Kings XI Punjab head coach Mike Hesson resigning after the team failed to make the playoffs under his coaching.
He tweeted about the announcement to confirm the news of him resigning and wishing the franchise luck for the upcoming and future seasons. “I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Kings XI franchise and wish to thank them for the season I had in charge. Whilst disappointed not to be able to build on the work we did this year, I’m sure success isn’t too far away for them. I wish them all the best for the future.”
There are rumours, though, that Hesson resigned to apply for the head coach of Team India. The post will soon be vacated by Ravi Shastri and the selectors are more than welcome to choose a new coach for the team.
“Hesson is very much interested in applying for the head coach’s position. He has spent a couple of months in India already working with Kings XI in IPL as well as doing television work with the host broadcasters. He’ll love to work with a high-profile team like India after a highly successful stint with New Zealand… He and his agent need to be convinced about the conditions of the job as laid down by the BCCI. But chances are that they will be sending their application in soon,” a report said.
India will most likely let go of Shastri after their disastrous campaign during the 2019 Cricket World Cup. They have made it clear that the various coaching positions will be vacated after the India tour of West Indies. To find out more about team India and their upcoming matches, visit Betwala’s page.
