The left-handed, fast-paced bowler last played in the IPL on 2015.
Mitchell Starc, Australia’s left-arm seamer, has decided to not be included in the upcoming IPL auction. This will be the second consecutive year that he has decided not to play in the tournament. He also missed prior seasons to prepare for the past World Cup and Ashes series. Another notable player who won’t play in the IPL is Joe Root.
The franchises have been given an order to submit a shortlist of their players before December 9. There is still a total of 73 slots that need to be filled to make up a full team for all eight teams. Among the 971 names registered, 258 are overseas players of which most are from Australia (55) and the rest are from Associate nations.
It has been confirmed that both Root and Starc won’t be playing in the IPL. Starc hasn’t played in the tournament since 2015 when he played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He was then acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a price of Rs 9.4 crore in the 2018 IPL auction. However, during that season, he was only on the bench. There are also reports Starc will play in the first season of The Hundred. He will play for Welsh Fire who signed him for USD 160,000 (Rs 1.14 crore).
Joe Root, on the other hand, was unsold in the IPL 2018 auction and didn’t play in the 2019 season as well. With the T20 World Cup to be played next year, it was thought that he would make himself available at the auction but decided against it later on.
Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell also weren’t part of the auction last year but are included in this year’s auction. Maxwell took a break from international cricket citing mental health reasons. He recently returned to playing club cricket.
Mitchell Starc is part of Australia’s International Men’s Cricket Team. Their next opponents will be New Zealand followed by India. To find out more about Australia’s upcoming matches, visit Betwala’s page.
