The cricketer believes that Azharuddin allowed corruption to spread.
Ambati Rayudu is once again in the news and for all the wrong reasons. After stating that he will retire from all forms of the game since he was not selected to play in India’s World Cup squad, he immediately retracted his statement and returned to competitive cricket in August. His retirement announcement came when Mayank Agarwal was called in as a replacement for KL Rahul in India’s World Cup campaign.
Rayudu led his state cricket team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and currently in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also shows interests in leading Hyderabad in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. However, due to his claims of ‘rampant corruption’ in the Hyderabad Cricket Association, he immediately retracted his request.
He then tweeted to the minister of Telangana and mentioned the situation in Hyderabad Cricket Association. The tweet says:
‘Hello sir @KTRTRS, I request u to plz look into nd address the rampant corruption prevailing in hca. How can hyderabad be great when it’s cricket team is influenced by money nd corrupt ppl who hav numerous acb cases against them which are being swept under the carpet’.
Mohammad Azharuddin, HCA’s newly-appointed president, commented on the statement and said that Ambati Rayudu is a ‘frustrated cricketer’. In an earlier interview, Rayudu said that he talked with the president of the HCA. He was then assured that he (the president) was despite his best efforts, nothing was happening. Rayudu believed that Azharuddin should have implemented stronger countermeasures.
‘I did have a talk with the president. He always said he was trying his best. But it never happened. I feel he should have initiated stronger measures but he did not do that. I feel there were more election promises and as a result, the game suffered. It hurt me a lot. A few players, who did not deserve to be in the team, were included in the team because of the election promises. If this happens, how can a team improve?’, said Rayudu.
The HCA is the governing body of cricket activities in Hyderabad and other districts in the state of Telangana in India. They also run the Hyderabad cricket team. To find out more about the different cricket leagues, visit Betwala’s page.
