India tour of South Africa kicks off on September 15
The famous Men in Blue will play against South Africa days after they wrap up their West Indies tour. South Africa and India play three T20I matches and three more Tests in the duration of South Africa’s tour. India’s T20I squad will most likely be revealed on September 4 and MS Dhoni might not be included in the lineup. There were reports on Dhoni’s retirement earlier this month but it is not yet confirmed. The Indian batsman still has not called it quits in limited formats.
BCCI is reportedly considering Rishabh Pant for the T20I series of South Africa’s tour. India sees the T20I series as an early prelude for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. India wants to dominate the upcoming T20I series as preparation to next year’s World Cup. ‘There are only 22 T20Is before India play their first World T20 game and selectors are clear in their vision that it’s time to move forward’.
It is unsure if BCCI will reach out to Dhoni about the upcoming India tour of South Africa. ‘They (selectors) have every right to decide the roadmap for the 2020 World T20 and that’s to give Rishabh Pant maximum chances’, a BCCI official said.
India is about to play their tour’s last match against West Indies. Both teams will play a Test match that starts on August 30. This is the second Test match of India and West Indies, with the former winning the first Test. The odds are for India (-666.67) to win the last match of their tour against West Indies (+480).
