Former India team captain Sourav Ganguly suggested before that Rohit Sharma should be the Test opener
KL Rahul received a lot of criticism. He showed poor batting in the Test series against the West Indies in Jamaica. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly suggested that Rohit Sharma should be the opener instead of Rahul.
Vice-captain Rohit Sharma was kept out in the playing XI of the Test series. He used to play as a middle-order batsman. Following Rahul’s poor performance in the series, Ganguly said that it is a chance to make way for Rohit in the opener position.
In the recent reports, chief selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) MSK Prasad spoke about considering Rohit Sharma for the Test opener role.
‘As selection committee, we haven’t met after the conclusion of the West Indies tour. We will definitely take this (Rohit as an opener) point into consideration when we all meet and discuss about it’, said Prasad.
‘KL (Rahul) is definitely a great talent. Of course, he is going through a bit tough time in Test cricket. We are definitely concerned about his form. He needs to spend more time on the wicket and regain his touch and form’, he added.
India is set to play three T20Is against South Africa that will begin on September 15. They will also play a Test series that will commence on October 2. The Test matches of South Africa’s tour of India is part of the ICC World Test Championship. Read more about cricket forms at Betwala.
