He was trolled for comparing Ashes Runs of Virat Kohli and Rory Burns.
Rory Burns has been excellent as England’s opener in the first Ashes Test. He scored an unbeaten 125 runs on the second day against Australia on the first day, putting England in the lead. During the first few overs, Jason Roy was dismissed with only 10 runs. Burns wasn’t phased and, together with Joe Root and then Ben Stokes, took England to 267/4 during day two. It is Burns first Ashes Test and he has performed well.
While the rest of the world congratulated him, Jimmy Neesham joked about Virat Kohli and Rory Burns. He compared their Ashes record and said, “Rory Burns has more runs in his first Ashes innings than Virat Kohli has in his entire Ashes career.”
The joke wasn’t taken lightly by fans of Kohli and was quick to point out that Kohli couldn’t even play in the Ashes. When a fan retweeted this along with the caption that Kohli has won more World Cups than the entire New Zealand team, Neesham was offended.
“I don’t think you understand the premise of the joke. The joke is that Kohli can’t play in the ashes because he’s Indian. Thus it would be a silly statement for me to compare his ashes runs to those of Rory Burns, an Englishman. It elicits a response of surprise,” he replied.
