The New Zealand tour of Bangladesh becomes one of the affected fixtures of COVID-19 after it has been postponed indefinitely.
Several fixtures of the World Test Championship had already been postponed. Just recently, the New Zealand tour of Bangladesh becomes an addition to that list as both cricket boards have decided to postpone it indefinitely for the safety of all.
As per BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, ‘In the present COVID-19 pandemic scenario, hosting a full cricket series in August 2020 will be a challenge in terms of preparations and we cannot take chances with the safety and health of players, support staff and related stakeholders’.
‘Under these circumstances, the BCB and NZC have felt that the best way forward would be to defer the series. We realise that this will be hugely disappointing for the players and officials of both teams, not to mention the fans of the two nations but I must thank NZC for its understanding and for recognising the rationale behind such a decision’, he added.
The cancellation of the said match is definitely okay with Bangladesh as they ensure the safety of their players more especially after their former captain Mashrafe Mortaza contracted the virus. Even though the match against New Zealand was postponed, the two cricket boards will still try to reschedule the series once everything is settled.
Originally, the tour was supposed to take place from August to September 2020. The said tour was comprised of two Test matches. To know more about Test matches, visit Betwala.
