New Zealand Cricket (NZC) stated that the New Zealand tour of West Indies is most unlikely to happen due to the virus outbreak.
As the global outbreak of COVID-19 continues, the match tours of New Zealand seem to be at stake. Among those tours which may be suspended is the tour set to take place with the West Indies by June or July.
NZC chief executive David White confirmed that the women’s tour of Sri Lanka which was scheduled for this month has been postponed. Meanwhile, the affected tours for the men’s team aside from that of the West Indies are the ones which are against the Netherlands, Scotland, and Ireland. White also stated that there is also uncertainty with regards to the New Zealand tour of Bangladesh which is expected to start in August.
‘Clearly, this situation is extremely disappointing for everyone involved in sport but, given the bigger picture, and the terrible toll COVID-19 is taking worldwide, we need to look after not only our own people but the greater community good’, White said.
The Black Caps and the West Indies were supposed to play three ODIs and three T20Is in their tour. To further understand the formats of cricket, head over to Betwala.
