Vettori said New Zealand bid for World Cup would not be stopped
Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori said that the team would not be defined by the result of their upcoming game against India.
“Because they’ve performed so well for a long time, New Zealand won’t be defined by the result or performance in this game, win or lose,” stated Vettori.
He continued that the Kiwis have consecutively won three of their ICC Cricket World Cup matches and that boosted their confidence. However, Vettori said that the next game against India is going to be massive.
“You know that matches against India are going to have a great atmosphere and be a real pressure situation,” Vettori stated. “India are perhaps the best team in the world and it’s exciting to play in front of a big-match crowd that is so into the game and so passionate about cricket.”
Vettori added that the Kiwi players will have to deal with thousands of supportive fans of Team India in their upcoming match.
“Lots of the guys will have experienced that in the subcontinent but to have that in England is going to be something that’s new to them and something they need to get used to as the tournament goes on, particularly if they want to reach those semi-finals,” Vettori said.
New Zealand will play against India on Thursday at Trent Bridge. Currently, India has odds of -213 to win the match and New Zealand has odds of +180.
