There will be no foreign players for Dhaka Premier League this season, as announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Bangladesh’s Traditional List A tournament Dhaka Premier League is set to start this March 15. As the tournament draws closer, the Bangladesh Cricket Board had been busy setting the standards for the upcoming season.
As the BCB had announced, the upcoming season of the DPL won’t have any foreign players as part of the playing teams. This is the first time in 50 years that the DPL won’t have any foreign players.
Last season, the DPL had 15 Indian cricketers, 4 Sri Lankans, and 5 Pakistani players who played for the different teams in the tournament. The reason as to why the DPL won’t have any foreign imports is that they want to maximize the opportunity for their local players.
Also, the organizing committee of the DPL wants to see how their local players will perform without the help of foreign imports. The Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) and the National Cricket League (NCL) also follow the same standard in their tournaments.
The players of the participating teams will be transferred from March 3 to 5. The members of the national team, who are currently playing against Zimbabwe, will be provided with a chance to complete their transfer formalities in Sylhet to be a part of the DPL tournament.
The DPL is a sports league based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. To know more about the importance of sports leagues, visit Betwala.
