James Pattinson was not selected for the second Test match of the Ashes 2019
Ashes 2019 Australia team captain Tim Paine speaks out about James Pattinson being excluded for the second Test of the series at Lord’s. Fast bowler Pattinson played for Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes series this year. The team’s opening Test match against England was Pattinson’s first Test since 2016. He was one of Australia’s best players in the opening Test match of the Ashes 2019 series, scoring an unbeaten 47 in the second innings. Despite his great play, Pattinson was not selected to play for the second Test match of the series that is being held at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, England.
'I think what we’re done in the past with James is got him back, we know how good he is so we keep using him and keep bowling him and eventually he’s broken again,' Paine stated. The 29-year-old bowler took a break from Test cricket for almost four years because of his injuries from playing cricket. The opening Test of the Ashes series is Pattinson’s comeback to Test cricket.
Australia team captain Paine added that Pattinson is still available for selection. Pattinson’s exclusion from the second Test does not mean that he will not play in future matches of the series. It is possible for him to play in the third Test of the Ashes series this year.
Pattinson’s possible replacements in the second Test are Mitchell Starc and Jos Hazlewood. 'We’re really lucky in the fact we’ve got two bowlers (Starc and Hazlewood) in particular on the sidelines that are world-class and we want to make sure James is absolutely cherry ripe every time he plays,' Paine continued.
The second Test match of the Ashes 2019 started yesterday, August 14. Australia is the winner of the opening Test match of the series. The team won the previous Ashes series as well.
