Simmons signed a four year contract with the West Indies Cricket Team
Phil Simmons returns to his previous position in the West Indies Cricket Team. He was the team’s previous head coach who was removed due to ‘differences in cultural and strategic approach’. Simmons was axed in September 2016, a few months after winning their second consecutive title in the World T20.
Simmons signed a contract to serve as the team’s head coach. The contract will span for four years. He was chosen among the short-listed candidates which include Desmond Haynes and Floyd Reifer.
‘Bringing Phil Simmons back is not just righting a past wrong, but I am confident that CWI has chosen the right man for the job at the right time. I want to also thank the very talented Floyd Reifer for the hard work he put in while he was the interim coach’, Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Ricky Skerritt said.
CWI Director Jimmy Adams also said that he is happy with Simmons’ appointment in the coaching position. He remarked that Simmons had the skills and experience to coach international squads.
Phil Simmons is a Trinidadian former cricketer who represented West Indies in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Test cricket. To know more about cricket formats, read the page on Betwala.
