Former Indian player Pravin Amre has formally returned to the Delhi Capitals to be their assistant coach for the next two seasons.
Pravin Amre has previously worked with the Delhi Capitals when he became their head talent scout between 2014 to 2019. Once again, he will be a part of the team’s coaching staff as he was officially appointed to be the team’s assistant coach for the upcoming season and the next.
After the announcement has been made by the franchise on Wednesday, Amre said, ‘I am grateful to the Delhi Capitals management for having me on board. With the team having reached its very first IPL final in 2020, this is certainly an exciting time to be back there. I look forward to working with Ricky (Ponting) again, and all the players’.
It was after his time with DC ended in 2019 that Amre worked with the Mumbai Indians as part of their talent scout team. Aside from that, he also managed to coach Mumbai to three Ranji Trophy titles.
The 52-year-old has also managed to work as a personal coach with several India internationals. He also went on to be a part of the domestic cricket scene as a player and a coach after he had professionally played 11 Tests and 37 ODIs for India.
Upon having him back in the team, Delhi Capitals CEO Dhiraj Malhotra said, ‘I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Pravin Amre back to the Delhi Capitals side. Ours is a team with an Indian core, and that thought process applies to our coaching staff as well’.
‘Few coaches know the domestic cricket scene in India as thoroughly as Amre does. He has been instrumental in getting the likes of Shreyas (Iyer), Rishabh (Pant), and Prithvi (Shaw) to our franchise, and his experience will once again be extremely valuable for us. We are delighted to have him on board’, Malhotra added.
