At 48 years old, Tambe is the oldest player to be auctioned in the IPL auction. Throughout his career, he also played in 33 IPL games.
Former Rajasthan Royals player breaks his own personal record by becoming the oldest player to get a bid in this year’s IPL auction. The 48-year-old was selected by the Kolkata Knight Riders for 20 lakhs INR during the IPL 2020 Auction. Besides this, he also holds the record for being the oldest player to make his IPL debut at 41.
Other players his age usually retire but not Tambe who made his debut at this time. The Rajasthan Royals, who he first played for, believed in his abilities despite his age. He repaid them by taking a two-ball hat-trick against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL back in 2014. However, when the team was suspended, he ended up not having a job. After this short setback, he played for Gujarat Lions and then Sunrisers Hyderabad.
With plenty of experience in the T20 format, he tried taking this into the T10 League where he also played for a while. He is the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the games shortest league. With his experience and skill, he is certainly going to be a key player for the team.
With regard to his IPL career, he has played in 33 games, taking 28 wickets at an average of 30.46. When he was playing for the Royals back in 2014, he achieved his best bowling figures of 4/20. That year was also his best season ever because he ended the season with 15 wickets in 13 matches with an economy rate of 7.26. In 2015, his performance took a dip after taking just 7 wickets in 10 matches.
While playing for the Gujarat Lions in 106, he took 5 wickets in 7 matches. He hasn’t played a single IPL game ever since. The Kolkata Knight Riders made some interesting purchases in the recent auction. They signed Pat Cummins for a record 15.50 Crores. They also took Tom Banton, Eoin Morgan, Chris Green, Rahul Tripathi, Nikhil Naik, Varun Chakravarthy and M Siddharth.
