The Proteas skipper is named as the captain of the T20I squad
South African cricket team captain Quinton de Kock spoke about his responsibility as captain of the team in the T20I series against India. The Proteas skipper said that he’s not too concerned about his role as the captain. He was named as the T20I captain by the selectors due to Faf du Plessis’ absence. De Kock is also being groomed for next year’s T20 World Cup.
‘Not too concerned to be honest. It is a new stepping stone in my career, gives me extra responsibility. Not sure if it would affect me negatively or positively’, De Kock said ahead of the second T20I against India.
The first T20I match between the home team and South Africa was called off due to rain showers. De Kock was disappointed with the abandonment of the match because every game is important for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
‘Obviously it is a bit of negative. We would have liked to play at Dharamshala. We would like to play as many matches heading into the 20-20 World Cup next year so losing out on one game is not ideal. But it is what it is. It is now a two-match series. It would be an exciting format so we will see how things go’, the Proteas skipper said.
De Kock was an IPL regular and a team member of the Mumbai Indians who won the title this year. He said that it was the biggest achievement in his career. Winning the World Cup is one of his goals. To know more about Indian Premier League, check out the page on Betwala.
