The 57-year-old cricket coach says it is an honour to be part of the team
It is now confirmed that Shastri will continue as Head Coach of Team India for 26 more months. Shastri was first appointed as coach of the India national cricket team in July 2017. The 57-year-old was elated with the news. He said that it’s an honour and privilege to be part of Team India.
Shastri thinks that it’s very important to help the young members of the team as they move forward. ‘The reason why I came in here… I had this belief in this team. I had this belief in this team. I had the belief that they could leave a legacy that very few teams left behind. In the years to come, now just at the moment, the legacy that other teams will like to emulate… There is always room for improvement. And with youth coming in through the ranks, I think it is a very exciting time,’ said Shastri. He also said that he will invest in the team’s youngest members and that there is enough time for experimentation with the team’s lineups in the future.
India is preparing for the Test series of their ongoing West Indies Tour. The first Test match of the series starts on August 22. Team India won the tour’s T20I and ODI series that took place earlier this month.
Shastri will continue to be India’s Head Coach as the team plays in next year’s ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. He also coached the team during the recent ICC Cricket World Cup where they lost the semi-finals round against New Zealand. The ICC Cricket World Cup is one of the most popular cricket tournaments in the world. You can know more about it at Betwala.
