India bowler Ravichandran Ashwin has not travelled to the United Kingdom with his teammates for the fifth Test match against England after testing positive for COVID-19. The veteran off-spinner is in quarantine and will join the squad after testing negative.
A practice match against Leicestershire is will take place before the main game against England kicks off, which the experienced bowler will not be able to take part in.
India lead the series against England 2-1 before the fifth test was called off amid growing concerns about COVID 19. After a draw in the first game of the Test series, India won the second game at Lord’s. But England bounced back in the third Test to level the series 1-1, before India won the fourth Test to take a 2-1 lead.
The fifth game was rescheduled and will now be played from July 1. The test will be followed by three T20 international games starting on the 7th of July, which will be followed by three ODI matches slated to begin on the 12th of July.
