Management dropped Rishabh Pant from Test series against SA
The India cricket team management decided to drop Rishabh Pant for the Test series against South Africa. The wicket-keeper batsman was replaced by senior player Wriddhiman Saha.
Pant has been receiving a lot of criticisms lately because of his careless batting. During his previous matches against South Africa and West Indies, the young wicket-keeper was unable to produce impressive figures.
Saha’s last Test match was 18 months ago in South Africa. He was rested for a while because he sustained an injury. He was replaced by Pant in the roster during his absence.
Skipper Virat Kohli said in an interview that Saha is fit and can perform for the Test series against the Proteas.
‘Saha is fit and fine to go. He is going to start the series for us. His keeping credentials are for everyone to see’.
‘Saha was always the one we would back as a pure keeper in test cricket. He has done well under pressure situations in the past for us, so it was just about finding the right opportunity and the moment to bring him back in’, he added.
Kohli also backed Sharma’s position as an opening batsman for the series.
‘We have given people opportunities in the past...Rohit's been in the Test set up for a long time it's about providing him with the opportunity to really find his game and find that template that he wants to in Test cricket’.
India and South Africa will play three Tests for the tour. The accumulated scores from the Test matches are included for the World Test Championship.
The World Test Championship is organized by the ICC to give meaning in the longest format of cricket. The ICC is the main governing body of cricket. To know more about cricket leagues, read the article on Betwala.
