Indian player Robin Uthappa gets traded by the Rajasthan Royals to the Chennai Super Kings.
Indian player Robin Uthappa will officially play for the Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. This is after he had been traded out by the Rajasthan Royals in an all-cash deal. With that, the 35-year-old player will now be heading over to his sixth IPL franchise.
Talking about his experience with the Royals, Uthappa said, ‘I really enjoyed my year at the Royals and had a great time being part of this franchise. I am now excited for the next part of my cricketing journey joining CSK for IPL 2021’.
So far, Uthappa has played in every season of the IPL. He has a record of having scored 4607 runs from the 189 games that he had played. He also has a strike rate of 129.99 and a record of 24 half-centuries in the competition. Back in 2014, he also contributed 660 runs to Kolkata Knight Riders’ second title win.
Thanking Uthappa for his time spent with the team, Royals CEO Jake Lush McCrum said, ‘We'd like to thank Robbie for his contribution during his time with us. He provided significant value building into the season in our camps in Guwahati and Nagpur, and his speech during our World Cup winners session during the season was one of the most powerful we have heard’.
‘We do have depth with regards to openers in our squad, therefore when the offer came from CSK, we thought it was a good opportunity for all parties involved. We'd like to wish Robbie all the best for this season at CSK and his future beyond that’, he added.
Before he had been a part of the Rajasthan Royals, Uthappa already played for several teams in the IPL. These teams are Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors (now defunct), and Kolkata Knight Riders. To learn more about the league and its teams, head over to Betwala.
