Sharma inspires India team to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019
India captain Virat Kohli stated vice-captain and batsman Rohit Sharma inspires the team to play every game with confidence.
“I have been watching Rohit for years now, he is the best ODI player around,” said Kohli after their match against Bangladesh on Tuesday. “He is a joy to watch and is having the tournament of his life. When he plays well, we know we are heading for a big score. He gives everyone (the) confidence to go out and bat.”
This comes after Sharma became the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup’s leading run-scorer with 544 runs in seven matches and an average of more than 90. Sharma also became the second player to get four centuries in a single World Cup after former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara.
Meanwhile, Sharma explained that he wants to use his skills to get the team in a good position in every game.
“Every game for me is a new game, and I try and do the same, try and see if I have the portion to finish the game or bat as long as possible and get the team in a good position, things like that,” said Sharma.
India’s last league stage match is against Sri Lanka on Saturday at Headingley Carnegie. The Men in Blue currently have -714 odds to win the game while the Lions have +520.
