Rohit Sharma is now ranked 8th in T20 Rankings
Batsman Rohit Sharma's place moved up to 8th spot in the ICC T20 Rankings. Sharma shares the 8th spot with England cricketer Alex Hales. Both players accumulated 664 points.
Skipper Virat Kohli and senior batsman Shikhar Dhawan also moved up their position in the rankings. Kohli’s 72 during the second T20 against South Africa placed him in the 11th, while Shikhar Dhawan’s 40 and 36 earned him the 13th spot.
Rohit Sharma also reached MS Dhoni’s record of having the most number of Twenty20 Internationals played for India.
Rohit is now drafted as India cricket team’s opening batsman for the three series Test match against South Africa. Former pacer Zaheer Khan backed the management’s decision to give Sharma the opening position in white-ball cricket.
‘It’s good if he opens. I think he (Rohit) will feel comfortable as well because he already opens in white-ball cricket. Virender Sehwag had also said that the best thing that happened to him was opening in Test cricket after opening in ODIs. The rhythm is set for him because he has been opening for a long time. He is in a zone now. What happens is, when you bat at four or five positions, a batsman has to wait. That can upset a batsman’s rhythm. The comfort zone is the key’, said the Khan.
India cricket team will play three sets of Test for the tour. The scores accumulated from the Test series are included for the World Test Championship. This will also mark South Africa’s campaign for the Test Championship.
