Joe Root takes pride in encouraging Jofra Archer to be confident in facing New Zealand’s challenging conditions in the upcoming Test series.
The Test series between New Zealand and England begins on Thursday, and Joe Root is making a move to inspire Jofra Archer in their upcoming battle. This marks Archer's first Test series outside of England.
Also, the series would be Archer’s first game with the red Kookaburra ball, which will probably shock him for a while. Root took steps in urging the bowler not to underestimate his talent. Root expects him to make an impact in the series.
‘Knowing Jofra, he wants to see the ball moving sideways’, Root said. ‘But one thing he underestimates is his own talent sometimes and that pace through the air can be a quite a big skill in its own’.
True enough, Archer admitted recently that he is yet to bowl with a red Kookaburra ball prior to the warm-up matches in New Zealand. He seemed underwhelmed with the uncertainty of using the ball well.
‘I just want him to go and bowl and enjoy bowling, the different challenges that this part of the world will throw at him’, Root continued. ‘I want him to come away from it learning there is more than one way of taking 20 wickets, he doesn't have to be seaming or swinging it round corners, we've already seen hostile spells of bowling’.
The two teams are set to square off this November 21st, and it could be a tight one with both sides coming off serious practice sessions. Check out the latest cricket odds on Betwala for this Test series, with New Zealand having -113.64 while England has -103.09 in the betting odds.
